because the outside world has changed.............. trailer-drawings by Igor Sevcuk, 2013

To begin with our dialogue I chose to reply Go-Eun Im's montages of film and digital video in a bit different technique: drawing and watercolor on paper. These techniques I learned very early, as all of us in our childhood did. They are in the same time slow and fast enough for my reflections, re-framing and reopening of our conversation for further contamination.

What is cinema technology all about, what is the basic idea of it, and what else cinema could be? Above all, we seem to be creating cinema by producing and watching films (and videos) together.** I guess, all filmmakers find some way to underline this primary and continuous interdependency and exchange. because the outside world has changed is a kind of mirroring montage too, or dialogue - it is our little contribution in the process.

Here below are a few shots of my try-out drawing trailer. The series of drawings will grow further throughout various stages of project, eventually becoming video and sound montage again.

According to neuroscientists our vision is formed by random series of rapid snapshots that are first recorded and a bit later reconstructed as something 'visible', or meaningful. These recordings are then stored - temporary forgotten - only to be occasionally recollected: re-framed and related with other series of snapshots. In other words, this is our most intimate and existential montage, constant rethinking of the movement (past and future) that creates our sense of reality, personal identity and shared history. Variety of time-based technologies supports it, extends it, and recast it to us.
